HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

This article demonstrates how the concept of preventable mortality can be used to develop mortality reduction measures using cardiovascular disease (CVD) as an example. The measures are structured according to Donabedian model. A Russian methodology for determining preventable mortality, based on international approaches and adapted to Russian healthcare system, was used. In collaboration with federal ...

Apposition (Appositional Constructions)
Natalia N. Logvinova, , in: Encyclopedia of Slavic Languages and Linguistics Online.: Brill, 2025. Ch. 11.
Two types of appositional phrases are distinguished in Slavic languages: close and loose. With close constructions, the issues of syntactic headedness and optional case concord between the parts are discussed. Loose appositions are functionally different from close appositions, having a role comparable to secondary predication. ...

Towards a typology of specificational constructions
Logvinova N., STUF - Language Typology and Universals 2024 Vol. 77 No. 2 P. 189–233
The present work is devoted to the syntax of specificational constructions with proper names within a typological perspective. The provided typology is based on the results obtained from the analysis of grammar descriptions and available corpus data for 94 languages. The paper discusses the morphosyntactic means that languages use to express specification, namely juxtaposition, attribution, and ...

Krongauz M., Piperski A., Tillabaeva A., Слово.
The paper presents a statistical study of the use of variant forms of Russian personal names. It is shown that Russian names can be divided into two classes: names with full and short forms contrast with names that only have one neutrally used form. For names that have a distinct short form, the frequencies of ...

Blinova O. V., Acta Linguistica Petropolitana.
The paper tests the hypothesis of positional similarity between truncated vocative forms (TVFs) like mam, pap, Tan’ (instead of, respectively, mama ‘mom’, papa ‘dad’, Tanya) and discourse markers (DMs) of the type “slushay”, “poslushay” (lit. ‘listen.2.Imp’). The hypothesis is based on the functional similarity of these expressions that belong to a wide category of parentheticals and ...

The article suggests a way of modelling the linear position of appellatives in Russian. Under the name «appellatives» are combined the units with similar functions and syntactic properties, namely truncated vocative forms and discursive markers of the type «slushaj» (lit. ‘listen-Imp.2P’). The model assumes distinction between accented and non-accented uses in three positions (initial, middle, ...

Three sources of head effects
Yury Lander, , in: Headedness and/or Grammatical Anarchy?.: Berlin: Language Science Press, 2022. P. 27–51.
This paper develops the claim that head properties arise (at least) due to one of the three factors: (i) the higher position of an element in a compositional structure, (ii) the informational prominence, and (iii) the development of a construction from an appositive(-like) structure. These factors are logically independent and may lead to the assignment of head properties ...

М., Acta Linguistica Petropolitana.
This paper addresses the system of purpose clauses in Hill Mari. It focuses on the conditions licensing omission of infinitival purpose clause subjects. Basically, these emerge where such subjects corefer to the matrix subject or indirect object. In cases of embedded predicate’s unaccusativity and direct object coreference, however, the subordinate subject can be omitted. Since this ...

P-omission under sluicing, [P clitic] and the nature of P-stranding
Philippova T., , in: ConSOLE XXII: Proceedings of the 22nd Conference of the Student Organization of Linguistics in Europe (8-10 January 2014, Lisbon).: Leiden: Leiden University Centre for Linguistics, 2014. Ch. 8 P. 133–155.
This paper discusses preposition (P) omission under sluicing (John talked with someone but I don’t know _ who) and the ability of P to take a clitic pronoun as a complement (We talked about’im), correlated with P-stranding (the ability of P to stay in situ when its complement undergoes movement, Who are you talking with_?) ...

Ellipsis in the phrasal comparative: evidence from correlate constraints
Philippova T., , in: Proceedings of the 47th Annual Meeting of the North East Linguistic SocietyVol. 3.: Amherst: GLSA Publ., 2017. P. 1–14.
This paper bears on the debate (cf. Lechner 2015) whether single DP-remnant comparatives are underlyingly clausal (reduced clause analysis, RCA) or base-generated as DPs (direct analysis, DA). Setting aside čem-comparatives, exhibiting clear CP-like behavior (see Pancheva 2006), I focus on genitive comparatives. No evidence for additional structure has been proposed for the Russian genitive comparative, ...
