Team Success: Aligning Means with Objectives
In corporations, sports, and academia, people often face challenges they cannot handle alone. In such cases, selecting the right team is crucial. Tatiana Mayskaya, Associate Professor at the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences and the International College of Economics and Finance, together with colleagues from foreign universities, examined team characteristics and found that less diverse teams are better suited to objectives where a high average performance is important, whereas more diverse teams are preferable when avoiding failure is critical. The paper has been published in Economic Theory.

Economists Propose More Effective Approach to Reducing Smoking
Economists at HSE University have examined how smokers respond to changes in cigarette prices. When tobacco prices increase, cigarette consumption does not always decline. In fact, spending on tobacco may even rise: according to the researchers, a 1% decrease in cigarette affordability leads to a 0.28% increase in per capita tobacco expenditure. The findings suggest that to reduce smoking rates, tobacco prices must rise faster than household incomes. The study has been published in Voprosy Statistiki.

Театральный, исторический и литературный контексты пьесы театра Кабуки «Сибараку»

С. 160–187.
Homchenkova V.

Current work analyzes one of the most famous plays of the Kabuki theater
“Shibaraku” (“Wait a minute!”, 暫く, 1697) in a historical, literary and theatrical
contexts. The novelty of the work is that in Russia there is no studies of the stage
costumes, wigs and make-up of the Kabuki theater. The script of the play was
translated into Russian for the first time; thus, a previously unknown dramatic text
is introduced into the scientific circulation. “Shibaraku” is one of “Eighteen classic
Kabuki plays” (歌舞 伎 十八 番 kabuki juuhachiban), selected by the outstanding
actor Ichikawa Danjuro VII in the 19th century, and is being successfully staged in
Japan to this day. It is performed in the traditional aragoto style (荒 事 ‘rough,
bombastic style’) and it is considered to be the most outstanding play in this genre.
The study analyzed stage costumes, make-up and wigs in the play
"Shibaraku". There are a lot of actors engaged in the play and, as can be seen from
the analysis of stage images, a lot of work has been put into creating their
costumes. The study is concerned with the analysis of the play, the translation of
the play “Shibaraku” from the classical Japanese language with detailed
commentary, the analysis of costumes, wigs, make-up, their role in the play, the
symbolism contained in the objects on stage.
The original text "A Collection of Eighteen Classical Kabuki Pieces" used in
translation is by Shigetoshi Kawatake (河竹繁俊, 1889 - 1967), the Japanese
theater expert.

Бескрайняя верность самураев и дерзкое благородство, с которым воины отправились на смерть, взбудоражили сознание японцев в мирную эпоху Эдо (1603—1868). «Инцидент в ...
