‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Biologists Discover 'Molecular Fingerprint' of Preeclampsia
Researchers at HSE University employed a new method to model hypoxia in placental cells during pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and identified molecular markers of tissue hypoxia. Since hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying preeclampsia, these findings are important for a more accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease and for the development of effective treatment methods. The paper has been published in Placenta.

On the Number of Maximal Antichains in Boolean Lattices for 𝑛 up to 7
Ignatov D. I., Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics 2023 No. 44 P. 137–146
We consider two ways how to compute the number of maximal antichains in the Boolean lattice on 𝑛 elements. The first one is based on full direct enumeration, while the second ones relies on concept lattices or Galois lattices (studied in Formal Concept Analysis, an applied branch of lattice theory) and the Dedekind–MacNeille completion of a partial ...

Ensemble Techniques for Lazy Classification Based on Pattern Structures
Ilya Semenkov, Sergei O. Kuznetsov, , in: Proceedings of the 9th International Workshop "What can FCA do for Artificial Intelligence?" (FCA4AI 2021)Vol. 2972.: CEUR-WS, 2021. P. 105–112.
This paper presents different versions of classification ensemble methods based on pattern structures. Each of these methods is described and tested on multiple datasets (including datasets with exclusively numerical and exclusively nominal features). As a baseline model Random Forest generation is used. For some classification tasks the classification algorithms based on pattern structures showed better ...

Summation of Decision Trees
Dudyrev E., Kuznetsov S., , in: Proceedings of the 9th International Workshop "What can FCA do for Artificial Intelligence?" (FCA4AI 2021)Vol. 2972.: CEUR-WS, 2021. Ch. 9 P. 99–104.
Ensembles of decision trees, like Random Forests are efficient machine learning models with state-of-the-art prediction quality. However, their predictions are much less transparent than those of a single decision tree. In this paper, we describe a prediction model based on a single decision tree in terms of Formal Concept Analysis. We define a differential way ...

Mixed Integer Programming for Searching Maximum Quasi-Bicliques
Ignatov D. I., Иванова П., Замалетдинова А., , in: Network Algorithms, Data Mining, and Applications. Springer Proceedings in Mathematics & StatisticsVol. 315.: Springer, 2020. Ch. 2 P. 19–35.
This paper is related to the problem of finding the maximal quasi-bicliques in a bipartite graph (bigraph). A quasi-biclique in the bigraph is its “almost” complete subgraph. The relaxation of completeness can be understood variously; here, we assume that the subgraph is a \(\gamma \)-quasi-biclique if it lacks a certain number of edges to form ...

Mining ternary relations or triadic Boolean tensors is one of the recent trends in knowledge discovery that allows one to take into account various modalities of input object-attribute data. For example, in movie databases like IMBD, an analyst may find not only movies grouped by specific genres but see their common keywords. In the so-called ...

Topology of nerves and formal concepts
Ayzenberg A., / Series arXiv "math". 2019.
The general goal of this paper is to gather and review several methods from homotopy and combinatorial topology and formal concepts analysis (FCA) and analyze their connections. FCA appears naturally in the problem of combinatorial simplification of simplicial complexes and allows to see a certain duality on a class of simplicial complexes. This duality generalizes ...

Preliminary Results on Mixed Integer Programming for Searching Maximum Quasi-Bicliques and Large Dense Biclusters
Ignatov D. I., Ivanova P., Zamaletdinova A. et al., , in: Supplementary Proceedings ICFCA 2019 Conference and WorkshopsVol. 2378.: CEUR Workshop Proceedings, 2019. P. 28–32.
This short paper is related to the problem of finding maximum quasi-bicliques in a bipartite graph (bigraph). A quasi-biclique in a bigraph is its “almost” complete subgraph; here, we assume that the subgraph is a quasi-biclique if it lacks γ · 100% of the edges to become a biclique. The problem of finding the maximal ...
