Наказания за тяжкие преступления в России XVIII века: к истории политического языка
The article is devoted to the phenomenon of the appearance of the concept of political death in the Russian language at the beginning of the 18th century. This term was directly related to the concept of the death penalty, but was used to define its theatrical analogue, just only imitating the punishment by natural death. These terminological changes, which was held under the influence of Western European criminal practices, indicated the fundamental possibility of the authorities refusing to reprimand the body of a criminal and replacing it with public shame, deprivation of honor and status devaluation. The reduction in the scope of the death penalty led to the humanization of punishments and, in one way or another, created the basis for the introduction of a moratorium on the death penalty.
