The article analyzes the insufficiently studied trend of decentralizing the administration of justice in the Great Patriotic War conditions. The problem is investigated on the example of the RSFSR territorial administrative bodies of justice – the departments of the RSFSR People’s Commissariat for Justice under the local councils (soviets). The author focuses on the process of expanding the powers of these local justice authorities, its causes and consequences. The research is based on the analysis of archival documents from the funds of the USSR and RSFSR People's Commissariats for justice and a number of its regional departments.
