The book by the outstanding German thinker Ernst Jünger is a collection of essay-sketches from the era of the Weimar Republic, balancing on the verge of a fictitious diary and a political manifesto. The lonely and courageous heart of the adventurer lives in the midst of disasters, where old values and hierarchies of the burgher world perish. The World War I "Dream Landscapes Burning with Fire" opened for the author the veil behind which the demonic world was hidden, impenetrable for the daylight of the mind, and now the dream, where the amazing and magical is dreamed, becomes Jünger's paradigm for interpreting the experience of reality. The state of modern civilization is a confused dream. Mysterious images of the monotonous movement of technology, the symbolism of death, the invasion of the burgher world of destructive demonic forces - all this "night side" of life, detailed in the "Heart of the Adventurer", is deeply connected not only with the experience of war, but also with the life of a big city ...
The second edition is supplemented by a translation of Jünger's essay "The Sicilian Letter to the Moon Man" and a new afterword by the translator.
