This study reconstructs the ideas about patriotism and nationalism in the perception of modern Japanese youth. Patriotism and nationalism were analyzed through the prism of such categories as the image of the country, image of a political leader, shame and pride, problems of the country, international relations. The author presents the results of interviewing Japanese students, which allow drawing conclusions about the patriotism of modern Japanese. The main trend can be considered a focus on culture and cooperation. Japanese youth broadcast a commitment to soft power and denies the possibility of military conflicts. This study allows us to conclude about the peace-loving youth and its commitment to "constructive" patriotism.
