The article highlights the use of drama activities in a FL classroom. The discussion starts by a brief overview of existing approaches to drama activities and current terminology and then considers novel conception of the FLT theatre focusing on its broad potential for teaching purposes. Methods for developing communicative skills, awakening students’ language and cultural awareness, creativity and interest in studies as well as various aids intended to facilitate “theatre comprehension” are also considered. Finally, to illustrate the authors’ standpoint some examples of their teaching experience are offered.
