‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Biologists Discover 'Molecular Fingerprint' of Preeclampsia
Researchers at HSE University employed a new method to model hypoxia in placental cells during pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and identified molecular markers of tissue hypoxia. Since hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying preeclampsia, these findings are important for a more accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease and for the development of effective treatment methods. The paper has been published in Placenta.

2018. Т. 77. С. 118–135.
Dvoinin A.

This article gives an overview of the development of psychology of religion in post-Soviet Russia from the 2000s to the present. The author evaluates this period as a stage of reviving of research in the field in question. This trend is supposed to be associated with the influence of the personal factor and the objectively existing white spot in this field rather than with a social request or the improvement in the financial situation of Russian science compared with the 1990s. There is positive dynamics in the number of defended academic theses in the field of psychology of religion. The number of publications has also been increasing. The article outlines key thematic areas of research on psychology of religion, discusses the problem of developing methodological instruments, analyses the educational literature published in 2000‒2010 as well as significant scientific events. The author of the article states that psychology of religion in Russia is currently going through the phase when the scientific community of psychologists and researchers of religion begins to identify itself and to consolidate its research efforts. However, despite the clear though moderate growth, psychology of religion still remains in the shadow of institutionalised Christian psychology on the one hand and a range of other religious disciplines on the other hand.

Context and relevance. In recent years, academic stress among high school students has been regarded as a significant risk factor for their well-being and academic achievement, while in the Russian context there is a noted shortage of modern, psychometrically validated methods for its assessment . Objective. The aim of this study is to validate the ...

We use interfaces to disconnect from the situation around us, from the persistent experience of the outside world, from our neighbors. It is this ability of interfaces to legitimize “absence” that is usually overlooked in their analysis, as the emphasis is on concentration, management, and control. In reality, interfaces are not so much pragmatic and ...

С., Poddiakov A. et al., М.: Новые печатные технологии, 2025.

Problem solving in philosophy. How to Do Philosophy in the Age of Ultra-Intelligent AI
Vervoort L., Springer, 2026.
This open access book provides a method for philosophical problem solving, offering philosophers the tools to stay ahead of machine intelligence. Louis Vervoort argues that, with ultra-intelligent AI knocking at the door, philosophy can no longer rely solely on its ancient methodological toolkit. The proposed method is essentially the same as used in natural science, ...

Self-esteem and self-reported personality traits: When attitudes toward traits make a difference
Shchebetenko S., De Marchis G., / Series PsyArXiv "PsyArXiv". 2026.
Personality questionnaires do not directly record recurring conduct. Rather, they elicit task-bounded reports of personality attributions: how respondents characterise themselves using personality-descriptive content. From this perspective, established associations between self-esteem and self-reported personality may depend on the evaluative meaning attached to that content. We tested whether attitudes toward the Big Five traits moderated associations between self-esteem and corresponding personality reports ...

The spheres of the miraculous and monstrous are older than science, and perhaps even older than conceptual language. They belong to the reality of metaphors, or even deep emotions, therefore, in relation to science, their use, at first glance, seems evaluative and superfluous, because they do not refer to specific objects, labels and categories, but ...

The digital today constitutes an environment of affects: it touches, enchants, captivates, incites, and frightens. What it does not do, however, is provide knowledge; rather, it takes knowledge away. Previously, the subject of cognition was the human being, though cognition itself was largely grounded in institutions, social contacts, performative rituals, and the activity of human-scale ...

Dvoinin A., Natural Systems of Mind 2025 Vol. 5 No. 4 P. 4–21
Background and Problem. The psychology of religion has traversed a long and non-linear historical path, experiencing an initial flourishing (1880–1920), a subsequent decline, and a significant resurgence since the 1990s. Despite this renewed growth, driven by advances in genetics, neuroscience, and cognitive science, a comprehensive overview of the development of natural science perspectives within the field—from their origins ...

In this article, based on official statistics 2000–2017, we argue that neoliberal policies have neglected the Russian North: its people, its enterprises and its territories have been expelled from core social and economic processes. We develop the concept of “expulsion” to argue that organized institutional exclusion is the result of mischaracterizing Northern welfare, intensifying the ...
