Hybridization of edge modes with substrate phonons
Azat F. Aminov, Alexey A. Sokolik, Optics Letters 2025 Vol. 50 No. 11 P. 3728–3731
Surface plasmons or phonons propagating on a two-dimensional (2D) material can exhibit coupling with resonant excitations in its substrate, and the resulting coupled modes were extensively studied. Similar coupling of edge modes propagating along a boundary of the 2D material with substrate excitations remains unexplored. This paper aims to bridge this gap by investigating the ...

Two-Dimensional Terahertz Spectroscopy of Nonlinear Phononics in the Topological Insulator MnBi2Te4
Blank T. G., Grishunin K. A., K. A. Zvezdin et al., Physical Review Letters 2023 Vol. 131 No. 2 Article 026902
The interaction of a single-cycle terahertz electric field with the topological insulator MnBi2Te4 triggers strongly anharmonic lattice dynamics, promoting fully coherent energy transfer between the otherwise noninteracting Raman-active Eg and infrared (IR)-active Eu phononic modes. Two-dimensional terahertz spectroscopy combined with modeling based on the classical equations of motion and symmetry analysis reveals the multistage process underlying the excitation of the ...

Lattice dynamics of high-pressure hydrides studied by inelastic neutron scattering
Antonov Vladimir E., Fedotov V., Ivanov A. et al., Journal of Alloys and Compounds 2022 Vol. 905 Article 164208
Due to the small mass and anomalously large neutron scattering cross-section of proton (about 80 barns compared to a few barns for other nuclei), inelastic neutron scattering is considered as one of the most effective tools in studying optical vibrations of hydrogen atoms in metal hydrides. The current review is focused on the binary hydrides ...

Kuzovnikov M., Antonov V., Hansen T. et al., Journal of Alloys and Compounds 2022 Vol. 893 Article 162299
It is currently known that three hydrides – PdHx, MoHx, and TiHx – exhibit an inverse isotope effect in superconductivity. Namely, the phase with a heavier hydrogen isotope, deuterium, has a higher critical temperature. Hydrides and deuterides of palladium have intensively been studied both experimentally and theoretically, but the origin of the isotope effect has ...

Raman Spectra of Nonpolar Crystalline Nanoparticles: Elasticity Theory-like Approach for Optical Phonons
Oleg I. Utesov, Yashenkin A., Koniakhin S., Journal of Physical Chemistry C 2018 Vol. 122 No. 39 P. 22738–22749
A simple way to investigate theoretically the Raman spectra (RS) of nonpolar nanoparticles is proposed. For this aim, we substitute the original lattice optical phonon eigenproblem by the continuous Klein−Fock−Gordon-like equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions. This approach provides the basis for the continuous description of optical phonons in the same manner how the elasticity theory ...
