Роль курса "Композиция письменного текста и риторика" в программах обучения в вузах США будущих менеджеров
The article addresses the problem of the increasing importance of such disciplines as “Freshman composition” and "Business writing" in the management programs in universities in the USA. The article emphasizes that the professional activity of managers involves the ability to work with certain types of documentation and written genres, managers should be familiar with such forms of written texts as business correspondence, information and analytical reports, briefings and other types, each having its particular structure, terminology and stylistic requirements. The authors state the fact that in the modern system of higher education in the United States teaching future professionals the skills and comp1etencies of written communication is given special attention. The article notes that a significant part of educational activity in the US universities is related to writing papers, given that the vast majority of examinations are conducted in writing. The authors present a comparative analysis of the programs of the course "Rhetoric and writing" at the University of Texas Austin and the course "Reading, writing and composition" at the University of Berkeley. The text of the article presents a retrospective of changes in the understanding of the goals, objectives, content of courses of written composition at different stages of professional training of future managers. The authors emphasize the fact that the efforts still continue to standardize the content, teaching methods, expected learning outcomes, assessment criteria for the course “Written composition”, as well as to integrate this course into a comprehensive training program for students of various profiles in universities in the USA.
