HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

The article examines the phenomenon of extraordinary police violence in democratic states, which manifested during several protest waves in recent years. Structural Crisis in the Circassian Sultanate during the Reign of al-Ashraf Qanisawh al-Ghawri (r. 1501–1516)
Zelenev E., Iliushina M., Iran and the Caucasus 2025 Vol. 4-5 No. 29 P. 435–450
Sultan al-Ashraf Qanisawh al-Ghawri cannot be classified as an outstanding Mamluk ruler, but rather the opposite: his accession to power was a forced measure when all the more worthy claimants to the throne were unable to compete for power, so that the principle of negative selection came into play. The reign of al-Ashraf Qanisawh al-Ghawri ...

Socio-legal studies have consistently documented the phenomenon of the “female discount”—a tendency for female defendants to receive more lenient punishments than male defendants. However, the literature on courts in authoritarian regimes suggests that decision-making patterns may differ in cases involving state interests. We analyze 15,229 court decisions under the most common parts (2, 5, 6.1, ...
