Иррациональное в русской культуре: Сборник статей
This collection is focused on the approaches of contemporaries to the irrational in Russian culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. The authors analyze how theologians, doctors, sociologists, poets, composers, musical critics, bureaucrats and psychiatrists considered such phenomena as aparitions, miraculous healings, trance, dreams, inspiration, musical extasis, madness, cruelty, and war-periods destitution. They juxtapose the views "from within", i.e. of those who experienced such states of consciousness, with the views "from outside", i.e. with reactions of Church, state and academic authorities, who found it necessary to explain these phenomena if not to manage with them. Russin experience of the "encounters with the irrational" is considered here in a wider European context, and this allows to reject the well-known opinion that Russian culture is allegedly especially inclined to irrational states.
