The substantiation of the conceptual model of human understanding of the surrounding world is presented. The role of personal meaning in understanding is shown. The organization of behavior based on biological motivation is considered. New concepts of "signal understanding" and "quasi-understanding"are introduced. Based on them, the transition to conscious understanding is analyzed.
