Новый документ к исследованию хоры Херсонеса Таврического: карта Струлова 1786 г. [New Document for the Study of Chora of Chersonesus Taurica: Strulov’s Map of 1786]
This article studies one of the maps of the Heracleian Peninsula in the Crimea entitled “Plan of remains of the ancient Chersonesus with an indication of former straight streets designated with the red colour, composed in November 1786” and thesignature “The plan is made and designed by the landsurveyor podporuchik Ananiy Strulov”. This signature evidences that the plan was made during fieldwork and the map was drawn as a result of this fieldwork. Later, in the 20th century, S. Strzheletskiy studied the system of ancient land division in the Heracleian Peninsula and checked the precision of reflection of this division in the map of 1786. This precision was also confirmed by aerial photos. Strzheletskiy’s monograph was published in 1961, i. e. 185 years after the year when the maps showing the ancient land division were created. These maps have preserved their scientific significance up to the present day and represent a valuable source in the study of the territorial structure of the ancient polis of Chersonesus.
