Артикли в рутульском языке
Типология морфосинтаксических параметров. 2019. Т. 2. № 2. С. 79-94.
Numeral ‘one’ and demonstratives are usual sources of grammaticalization of articles in the languages of the world. Rutul numeral sa ‘one’ and demonstratives are widely used in texts in functions close to those of articles. Rutul data show that even though it is questionable whether sa can be considered an article, it can be considered a referential marker. On the other hands, demonstratives do not have properties which would be crucial for defining them as articles. They, therefore, are not considered articles.

Udi (East Caucasian) possesses several means of expressing the meaning ‘other’, namely (i) the combination of a (usually distal) demonstrative with a numeral (usually ‘one’), arguably calqued from Azerbaijani, (ii) the expression originating from a combination of a demonstrative with the noun ‘arm, side’ and (iii) borrowed adjectives. It is shown that the morphological properties ...

The paper describes expressions with the meaning ‘other’ in East Caucasian (Nakh-Daghestanian) languages. It is shown that four main strategies can be distinguished: i) the ‘one’-based strategy: ‘other’ includes the numeral ‘one’; ii) the demonstrative-based strategy: ‘other’ includes a demonstrative pronoun; iii) the mixed demonstrative-based + ‘one’-based strategy: ‘other’ includes both a demonstrative and the ...

The paper provides a description of nominal inflection in Kina Rutul, a variety of the Rutul language (< Lezgic < Nakh Daghestanian). The description is based on three concepts of paradigmatic classification: class of inflectional equivalence, inflectional type and paradigmatic effect. Class of inflectional equivalence describes main patterns of concatenation between root, case / number ...

This paper presents a description of three classes of lexemes in Kina Rutul (Lezgic, East Caucasian): spatial adverbs, adverbial postpositions and postpositions proper. These classes overlap in majority of East Caucasian languages. I suggest criteria of distinguishing these classes of lexemes from each other. The description includes inflection of the lexemes, their etymology and syntactic ...

This paper discusses the syntactic properties of the general perfective converb in Rutul. It can head either an independent predication or a subordinate clause. Clausal relations tests applied to the converb suggest that, when combined with another clause, it may be either coordinate or subordinate. Furthermore, the general covnerb may either fall or not to ...

Grammaticalization is often considered to reflect frequent co-occurrence of certain elements in certain positions. This paper tests the frequency-based account of the grammaticalization of person agreement, comparing the grammaticalization of person agreement in Tabasaran, a Lezgic language, with the syntax of free pronouns in closely related Agul. Our assumption is that the situation in Agul, ...

The purpose of our study is to investigate the lexicalization of so-called adverbial phrases, such as fun a mol, in modern Hasidic Yiddish in comparison with written literary Yiddish of the 20th century. The phenomenon in question is a historical process in which several lexemes forming a frequent collocation (including nouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and ...

In this article, we study the phenomenon of grammaticalization in the syntactic segment of infinitival structures in Modern German. Different points of view regarding the parameters of grammaticalization are examined and compared. Based on the criteria considered, infinitive structures that tend to be grammaticalized are selected and the semantic, morphological and syntactic changes in these ...
