‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

Sinelshchikov D., Garashchuk I., Kudryashov N. A., Journal of Physics: Conference Series 2017 Vol. 788 P. 012013 -1–012013 -6
Non-linear dynamical systems describe many physical processes. In this work we investigate a three-dimensional Lorenz-like system - the Glukhovsky-Dolzhansky system. We consider analytical properties of the studied system. The problem of existence of meromorphic solution is discussed. We perform the Painlev`e test and find conditions imposed on parameters of the system for which meromorphic solutions ...

General Solution of the Rayleigh Equation for the Description of Bubble Oscillations Near a Wall
Sinelshchikov D., Garashchuk I., Kudryashov N. A., European Journal of Physics: Web of Conference 2018 Vol. 173 P. 03008-1–03008-4
We consider a generalization of the Rayleigh equation for the description of the dynamics of a spherical gas bubble oscillating near an elastic or rigid wall. We show that in the non–dissipative case, i.e. neglecting the liquid viscosity and compressibility, it is possible to construct the general analytical solution of this equation. The corresponding general solution is expressed via ...

On connections of the Liénard equation with some equations of Painlevé–Gambier type
Кудряшов Н. А., Sinelshchikov D., Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications 2017 Vol. 449 No. 2 P. 1570–1580
The Liénard equation is used in various applications. Therefore, constructing general analytical solutions of this equation is an important problem. Here we study connections between the Liénard equation and some equations from the Painlevé–Gambier classification. We show that with the help of such connections one can construct general analytical solutions of the Liénard equation's subfamilies. ...

Analytical model for deep bed filtration with multiple mechanisms of particle capture
Liudmila I. Kuzmina, Osipov Y., Zheglova Y., International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics 2018 Vol. 105 P. 242–248
model for deep bed filtration of a monodisperse suspension in a porous medium with multiple geometric particle capture mechanisms is considered. It is assumed that identical suspended particles can block pores of different sizes. The pores smaller than the particle size are clogged by single particles; if the pore size exceeds the diameter of the particles, it can ...

2D Constrained Navier-Stokes Equations
Brzezniak Z., Dhariwal G., Mariani M., Journal of Differential Equations 2018 Vol. 264 No. 4 P. 2833–2864
We study 2D Navier–Stokes equations with a constraint forcing the conservation of the energy of the solution. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution for the constrained Navier–Stokes equation on R2 and T2, by a fixed point argument. We also show that the solution of the constrained equation converges to the solution of the Euler ...

Homogenization of trajectory attractors of 3D Navier-Stokes system with randomly oscillating force
Bekmaganbetov K., Chechkin G., Chepyzhov V. V. et al., Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems 2017 Vol. 37 No. 5 P. 2375–2393
We consider the 3D Navier--Stokes systems with randomly rapidly oscillating right--hand sides. Under the assumption that the random functions are ergodic and statistically homogeneous in space variables or in time variables we prove that the trajectory attractors of these systems tend to the trajectory attractors of homogenized 3D Navier--Stokes systems whose right--hand sides are the ...

Асимптотики решений задач обтекания несжимаемой жидкостью поверхностей c малыми неровностями при больших числах Рейнольдса
Gaydukov R., Danilov V., Наноструктуры. Математическая физика и моделирование 2016 Т. 15 № 1 С. 5–102
We study the existence conditions for a double-deck structure of a boundary layer in typical problems of incompressible fluid flow along surfaces with small irregularities (periodic or localized) for large Reynolds number. We obtain characteristic scales (a power of a small parameter included in a solution) which lead to the double-deck structure, and we obtain ...

Existence of the Stationary Solution of a Rayleigh-Type Equation
Gaydukov R. K., Borisov D. I., Mathematical notes 2016 Vol. 99 No. 5 P. 636–642
A fluid flow along a semi-infinite plate with small periodic irregularities on the surface is considered for large Reynolds numbers. The boundary layer has a double-deck structure: a thin boundary layer (“lower deck”) and a classical Prandtl boundary layer (“upper deck”). The aim of this paper is to prove the existence and uniqueness of the ...

Vortices in the Prandtl boundary layer induced by irregularities on a plate
Danilov V., Gaydukov R., Russian Journal of Mathematical Physics 2015 Vol. 22 No. 2 P. 161–173
A fluid flow along a plate with small irregularities on the surface is considered for large Reynolds numbers. The boundary layer has a double-deck structure, i.e., both a thin boundary layer and the classical Prandtl boundary layer are present. It is proved that the solution of the boundary-value problem thus obtained exists and is unique ...

Solitons in an extended nonlinear Schrodinger equation with pseudo stimulated scattering and inhomogeneous cubic nonlinearity
Aseeva N.V., Gromov E.M., Tyutin V.V., Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics 2015 Vol. 58 No. 3 P. 209–215
Evolution of solitons is addressed in the framework of an extended nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE), including a pseudo-stimulated-Raman-scattering (pseudo-SRS) term, i.e., a spatial-domain counterpart of the SRS term which is well known as an ingredient of the temporal-domain NLSE in optics. In the present context, it is induced by the underlying interaction of the high-frequency ...
