‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Biologists Discover 'Molecular Fingerprint' of Preeclampsia
Researchers at HSE University employed a new method to model hypoxia in placental cells during pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and identified molecular markers of tissue hypoxia. Since hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying preeclampsia, these findings are important for a more accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease and for the development of effective treatment methods. The paper has been published in Placenta.

Akhunova O., Индоевропейское языкознание и классическая филология 2026 Т. 30 № 1 С. 108–119
There is a scene in Pindar’s Pythian 9 that attracts much attention of scholars, not only because the erotic theme in general is unusual for Pindar, but also because in this scene neither the question that Apollo addresses Chiron, nor the answer that Chiron gives him, can be unambiguously interpreted. Does Apollo intend to commit open violence against Cyrene, or ...

Pindar’s victory odes are fertile ground for scholarly research. Pindaric scholars elucidate Pindar’s often obscure verse by exploring various venues: they examine historical, cultural, and religious backgrounds of the victory odes (e.g. the Greco-Persian wars, the rule of Hieron in Sicily, religious cults referenced by Pindar); study Pindar’s poetic meters; establish generic patterns of the ...

Thebes in Fifth-century BCE Tragedies: Politics and Paideia
Mozhaysky A., , in: Paideia on Stage.: Parnassos Press, 2023. P. 121–144.
With Aeschylus setting the trend, Attic tragedies of the 5th century BCE tended to reflect the language of instruction, which concerned not only issues of teaching and learning, but was also a tool of political criticism. Tragedies accumulated mytho-historical models that were formed long before the tragedies themselves were created and were limited to popular ...

Куррикулум для героя: Геракл и Ахиллес
Pichugina V., Жирнова А. С., Калининград: Издательство Балтийского федерального университета им. И. Канта, 2023.
The features of the educational path of the hero are the least studied part of the history of pedagogical culture, despite the great attention of ancient authors to the biographies of heroes and the extensive tradition of discussing their exploits. The Greek paideia for the hero, from which the Roman humanitas grew, in a special ...

Образование в городе сквозь слезы и смех: софистические речи в «Медее» Еврипида и «Облаках» Аристофана
Pichugina V., Hypothekai 2023 № 7 С. 16–44
During the time of Euripides and Aristophanes, innovative pedagogical ideas were discussed in an equally innovative manner. The intellectuals of that era played a significant role in creating an ironic pedagogical triangle consisting of Euripides, Aristophanes, Socrates, and the sophists in classical Athens. Employing tragedy and comedy in varying degrees, Euripides and Aristophanes drew attention ...
