HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Participation of ethnic migrations in the formation of the regional labor market (on the materials of the Republic of Tatarstan)

QUID Investigacion Ciencia y Tecnologia. 2017. No. Special Issue N°1. P. 1327–1333.
Biktimirov N. M., Rubtzov V. A., Mustafin M. R., Gabdrakhmanov N.

The article considers some territorial aspects of development of labor migration of the population within the Republic of Tatarstan. We showed the mechanism of attracting and using foreign labor in the region. We studied the factors influencing the use of foreign labor. We paid special attention to the influence of foreign labor migrants employed in the Tatarstan labor market on national security. We identified the most significant problems of ensuring national security in the region during this study. We explored how the migration processes taking place in Russia actively influence the change in the national composition of the population by the example of the Republic of Tatarstan. We showed the factors influencing the migration movement of the population. Taking into account the current trends in the demographic development of the population, the forecast data of the future ethnic composition of the Republic of Tatarstan are presented by 2030. The paper shows how the effective use of own labor resources is complicated by the low territorial mobility of the population of the Republic. In the paper, we studied the dependence of the dynamics of the number of labor resources on the ratio of different nationalities to the population of the republics and their reproduction regimes. To increase the efficiency of attracting and using foreign labor, we presented the necessary recommendations.

Youth unemployment, labour productivity and the evolution of the labour markets in Europe
Parisi M. L., Marelli E., Demidova O., , in: Young people and the labour market.: Routledge, 2018. Ch. 3 P. 65–81.
The size and persistence of youth unemployment has become unacceptable in some European countries, particularly in Southern Europe. Stagnation in labour productivity, on the other hand, goes back to the 1990s and even worsened after the burst of the crisis. A further evidence is that labour market reforms in many countries introduced, over the past ...

Neoclassical economics is built around static concepts of efficiency and welfare that can only be applied with great care to a dynamic and inherently imperfect world . And economists, including most neoclassical economists, have long understood that the fact that perfect competition yields an allocatively optimal  outcome in the purely hypothetical world of perfect competition, ...
