Функции императивных форм дай/давай и их грамматикализованных вариантов в высказываниях детей
The subject of the current chapter is the functions of perfective and imperfective imperatives of give-verbs dajand davaj. It is known that in the Russian language these forms are frequent and possess a wide functional range. Further grammaticalization of these forms shows a divergence, which can not be completely explained by the perfective-imperfective opposition in the imperative forms. The analysis of these forms is based on child language and parental input data presenting the usage of the forms as a more clearly defined opposition than in adult directed speech. Imperatives dajand davajunderwent at least two stages of grammaticalization: towards the status of modal particles and that of discourse markers. The form davajis more frequently used as a grammaticalized element, while dajis usually used as a verb of giving. This fact is explained as a result of aspect-semantics interaction following A. Bondarko's notion of unequally frequent aspectual correlation and V. Lehmann's theory of α- and β-verbs.
