«Метаморфозы, или Золотой осел» Апулея как «роман с ключом»: египетский ключ»
С. 120-132.
Apuleius’ famous novel “Metamorphoses, or The Golden Ass” is a very problematic work. The problem of its unity was always one of the most intriguing. How is the whole story of Lucius’ adventures connected with its “Egyptian” denouement? The answer is concealed in the starting chapter, namely in the words papyrum Aegyptiam argutia Nilotici calami inscriptam, which should be interpreted as an allegory. “Egyptian papyrus” in its literal sense means simply, that the novel is written on Egyptian “writing paper”, but in its figurative sense it means, that the whole story is created on a single, namely Egyptian, basis. This Egyptian basis lies in the dramatic versions of the basic Egyptian myth of Isis, Osiris and Seth.
