HSE Researchers Compile Scientific Database for Studying Childrens Eating Habits
The database created at HSE University can serve as a foundation for studying children’s eating habits. This is outlined in the study ‘The Influence of Age, Gender, and Social-Role Factors on Children’s Compliance with Age-Based Nutritional Norms: An Experimental Study Using the Dish-I-Wish Web Application.’ The work has been carried out as part of the HSE Basic Research Programme and was presented at the XXVI April International Academic Conference named after Evgeny Yasin.

Scientists Develop Algorithm for Accurate Financial Time Series Forecasting
Researchers at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science benchmarked more than 200,000 model configurations for predicting financial asset prices and realised volatility, showing that performance can be improved by filtering out noise at specific frequencies in advance. This technique increased accuracy in 65% of cases. The authors also developed their own algorithm, which achieves accuracy comparable to that of the best models while requiring less computational power. The study has been published in Applied Soft Computing.

Twitter Self-Organization to the Edge of a Phase Transition: Discrete-Time Model and Effective Early Warning Signals in Phase Space
Dmitriev A., Lebedev A., Kornilov V. et al., Complexity 2023 Vol. 2023 Article 3315750
Many real-world systems of various origins are capable of self-organization to the edge of a phase transition, characterized by avalanche-like behavior. Therefore, it is important, by observing the behavior of early warning measures for dynamical series generated by systems, to timely see the early warning signals (precursors) of such self-organization and, if necessary, take preventive ...

Self-oscillations in a certain Belousov–Zhabotinsky model
Kondratieva L., Aleksandr Romanov, , in: XXII International Conference on Computational Mechanics and Modern Applied Software Systems (CMMASS'2021).: MATEC Web of Conferences, 2022. Ch. 01011 P. 1–7.
We consider the dynamic properties of a system of three differential equations known as the oreganator model. This model depends on four external parameters and describes one of the periodic Belousov–Zhabotinsky reactions. We obtain broad conditions for the parameters that ensure the existence of non-stationary steady-state regimes in oregonator model. With classical values of the parameters, ...

Identification of Self-Organized Critical State on Twitter Based on the Retweets' Time Series Analysis
Dmitriev A., Dmitriev V., Complexity 2021 Vol. 2021 Article 6612785
There is a number of studies, in which it is established that the observed flows of microposts generated by microblogging social networks (e.g., Twitter) are characterized by avalanche-like behavior. Time series of microposts depicting such streams are the time series with a power-law distribution, with 1/f noise and long memory. Despite this, there are no studies ...

Twitter Critical Phases Identification Based on Time Series of Microposts Analysis

Based on the basic principles of the self-organized criticality theory, we proposed an identifiers of network criticality. The identifiers allow you to determine the subcritical and supercritical phases of Twitter, using only the results of the analysis of the time series of microposts. The most significant result is the existence of two classes of time ...

Self-Organized Criticality on Twitter: Phenomenological Theory and Empirical Investigation Based on Data Analysis Results
Dmitriev A., Dmitriev V., Balybin S., Complexity 2019 Vol. 2019 No. Article ID 8750643 P. 1–16
Recently, there has been an increasing number of empirical evidence supporting the hypothesis that spread of avalanches of microposts on social networks, such as Twitter, is associated with some sociopolitical events. Typical examples of such events are political elections and protest movements. Inspired by this phenomenon, we built a phenomenological model that describes Twitter’s self-organization ...

Nonlinear random dynamical model for the stock market
Dmitriev A., Kornilov V., , in: Journal of Physics: Conference SeriesVol. 1298. Issue 1.: Institute of Physics Publishing (IOP), 2019. P. 012009-1–012009-5.
A new model of a stock market as a nonlinear random dynamical system with additive noise in three-dimensional phase space is offered. Implementations of this model in the adiabatic approximation possess all the key signs of fractal market, making the model a reasonable evolutionary model for a stock market. The use of adiabatic approximation allows ...

The saga of a fish: from a survival guide to closing lemmas
Kryzhevich S., Eugene Stepanov, Journal of Differential Equations 2019 Vol. 267 No. 6 P. 3442–3474
In a recent paper by D. Burago, S. Ivanov and A. Novikov, "A survival guide for feeble fish", it has been shown that a fish with limited velocity capabilities can reach any point in the (possibly unbounded) ocean provided that the fluid velocity field is incompressible, bounded and has vanishing mean drift. This brilliant result ...

Complexity of a microblogging social network in the framework of modern nonlinear science
Dmitriev A., Kornilov V., Maltseva S. V., Complexity 2018 Vol. 2018 No. Article ID 4732491 P. 1–11
Recent developments in nonlinear science have caused the formation of a new paradigm called the paradigm of complexity. The self-organized criticality theory constitutes the foundation of this paradigm. To estimate the complexity of a microblogging social network, we used one of the conceptual schemes of the paradigm, namely, the system of key signs of complexity ...

The present research is devoted to the application of stochastic bifurcation theory to the early detection of economic bubbles. A nonlinear random dynamical system with the possible appearance of stochastic P-bifurcations with a fat-tailed probability density function is deduced. The possibility of application of chaotic bifurcation theory to the early detection of culminations of economic ...

Precocious identification of popular topics on Twitter with the employment of predictive clustering
Gromov V., Konev A., Neural Computing and Applications 2017 Vol. 28 No. 11 P. 3317–3322
The present paper outlines a novel approach to predict popularity of topics for social network Twitter; the method is designed to identify precociously the topics able to demonstrate “explosive” growth in popularity. First of all, the predictive clustering method ascertains real (not written in hash-tags!) topics of tweets and then predicts popularity rates for the ...

Dmitriev A., Dmitriev V., Silchev V., WSEAS Transactions on Business and Economics 2017 Vol. 14 No. 33 P. 311–321
This paper proposes a nonlinear dynamical model of stock market. Dynamical variables of the model are the variation of ask and bid price relative to equilibrium values and difference between numbers of market agents in a-state and p-state. A particular market agent being in a-state has maximum amount of valuable information about financial asset and ...

Nowadays, production control problems has been widely studied and a lot of valuable approaches have been implemented. Some work addresses the problem of tracking the uncertain demand in case of uncertain production speeds. The uncertainties are described by deterministic inequalities and the performance is analyzed in from of the worst-case scenario. First, simple mathematical models ...
