Museums like other cultural organizations have to manage actual trends while thinking about their future development, not only concerning exhibitions and educational activities, but using Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to fit a changing world. We marked out the main directions of IT-development to focus on during working on the Project of The Museum Quarter of The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. These are: main IT infrastructure components (hardware, software, network resources and services), security systems, digitizing museum’s collections and upgrading database, using information technologies, VR and media content in web and project development, also in capitalizing museum’s products and services. This article will help you to understand the main IT trends and opportunities that form the future of the museums.
