The article focuses on conceptualization of The Troubles in literary discourse of the end of the twentieth century. The concept is based on the results of the corpus research of several novels representing The Troubles: Eureka Street by R.MacLiam Wilson (1996), Reading in the Dark by S.Deane (1996), The International by G.Patterson (1999). The research is interdisciplinary – methods of both cognitive linguistics and literary studies are implemented. Abstract and sociocultural markers are identified in the corpus concerned by continuous sampling method. These content categories (markers) characterize the conflict in Northern Ireland. Cognitive attributes identified in the texts of the novels describe the concept of The Troubles represented in the novels regardless of pragmatic orientation of the authors. Text analysis showed that The Troubles concept is common to the Irish national sphere of concepts and unambiguously represents the idea of religious and political conflict between protestant and catholic communities in Northern Ireland. In novels variability of the concept is realized in individual interpretation of the author in emotional, imaginative and empathic constituents of the concept.
