‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

Ижогин А. А., Korotayev A., Социология власти 2025 Т. 37 № 3 С. 177–213
Existing data on elite splits suggest their significance for revolutionary success, as well as the significance of the defection of primarily security elites to the side of the revolutionary opposition for the success of a revolutionary uprising. The authors, relying on modern political science concepts and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), tested the corresponding hypotheses. The ...

This article identifies it as not only a regional, but also a confessional factor that all Islamic monarchies have a stabilizing effect on the socio-political dynamics. Moreover, in Islamic monarchies, the share of the young comes out more as ...

Significance of the Fezzan Region in French Policy in Libya and the Sahel
Nadzharov A., Международная аналитика 2023 Т. 14 № 2 С. 166–182

The 11 September 2001 attacks in the US changed the course of world history and made Al-Qaeda a state-like actor in international affairs, thereby confounding a core Realist idea. The event also increased interest in terrorism studies, creating two competing schools of thought within it, the classical and the critical school. The debates between these ...

Relevance. Libya has been struggling with fresh water shortages for much of its history. From 1970 to 2010, the country became one of the world leaders in terms of water ...

Practitioners and scholars of classical counter-terrorism have had to address many questions concerning the ethics, legality and even morality of targeted killing, along with other counter-terrorist practices. It would be naive to assume that terrorism will disappear in ...

Echo of the Arab Spring in Asia: A Quantitative Analysis
Korotayev A., Шадрова А. О., Соковнина Е. М. et al., Journal of Globalization Studies 2024 Vol. 15 No. 1 P. 110–138
There is no doubt that the Arab Spring triggered a global wave of social and political destabilization which significantly exceeded the scale of the Arab Spring itself and affected all the world-system zones, including Asian countries.2 The analysis suggests that in the Asian region there were two waves of destabilization caused by the Arab Spring. ...

The Arab Spring that began in Tunisia in 2010 quickly spread throughout the Middle East, fueling protests in many countries of the region, including Libya and Syria. While in Libya the UN Security Council supported NATO’s military intervention against the Gaddafi regime, the Syrian case caused disparity in views, with Russia and China vetoing the ...

Arab Spring, Its Aftermath, and James Davies’ Inverted J-Curve
Korotayev A., Shishkina A., Critical Sociology 2024 Vol. 50 No. 1 P. 177–182
We show that in the post-revolutionary Tunisian case  we are dealing here with the famous inverted J-curve effect that was first described by James C. Davies (1962)—risks of revolutionary destabilization are especially high when a pronounced economic slowdown comes after a few years of dynamic economic growth that creates inflated expectations. And this destabilization can ...

Korotayev A., Khokhlova A., Неприкосновенный запас.

Franco-Russian Great Power Rivalry in the Sahara-Sahel Region
Nadzharov, A.M., Entina E., Russia in Global Affairs 2023 Vol. 21 No. 3 P. 181–204
The Franco-Russian great power rivalry is a powerful security dynamic shaping the Sahara-Sahel region that was formed in the last decade due to transnational (in)security processes, namely, the transnational terrorism-migration-crime nexus. The confrontation between Paris and Moscow, which commenced at the end of last decade, is largely a consequence of the weaknesses and inefficiency of ...
