The use of corruption by Old Believers in Russia in the 18th–19th centuries to counteract repressive measures of the state policy towards Old Belief, and to keep and strengthen communities of Old Believers are analyzed in the article. The author infers the conclusion about meditative character of such system of protective corruption which softened negative aspects of the state policy and guaranteed further development of Old Belief community and Old Belief business.
