HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Забудьте то, что выучили: влияние медитации на намеренное забывание
Сергеюк А. А., Sherbakova O., Психологический журнал 2022 Т. 43 № 6 С. 28–42
One of the essential aspects of memory efficiency is the lack of recall (forgetting) of erroneous, traumatic, or unimportant information. Therefore, the development of tools for control and facilitation of forgetting is of particular importance. This work aims to investigate the impact of systematic mental training (openmonitoring meditation) on the magnitude of intentional forgetting effect. 106 volunteers (69 ...

Short-term meditation training alters brain activity and sympathetic responses at rest, but not during meditation
Rusinova A., Volodina M., Ossadtchi A., Scientific Reports 2024 No. 14 Article 11138
Although more people are engaging in meditation practices that require specialized training, few studies address the issues associated with nervous activity pattern changes brought about by such training. For beginners, it remains unclear how much practice is needed before objective physiological changes can be detected, whether or not they are similar across the novices and ...

SDA: a data-driven algorithm that detects functional states applied to the EEG of Guhyasamaja meditation
Mikhaylets E., Alexandra M. Razorenova, Vsevolod Chernyshev et al., Frontiers in Neuroinformatics 2024 Vol. 17 Article 1301718
The study presents a novel approach designed to detect time-continuous states in time-series data, called the State-Detecting Algorithm (SDA). The SDA operates on unlabeled data and detects optimal change-points between intrinsic functional states in time-series data based on an ensemble of Ward's hierarchical clustering with time-connectivity constraint. The algorithm chooses the best number of states ...

Cortical and autonomic responses during staged Taoist meditation: two distinct meditation strategies
Volodina M., Smetanin N., Lebedev M. et al., Plos One 2021 Vol. 16 No. 12 Article e0260626
Meditation is a consciousness state associated with specific physiological and neural correlates. Numerous investigations of these correlates reported controversial results which prevented a consistent depiction of the underlying neurophysiological processes. Here we investigated the dynamics of multiple neurophysiological indicators during a staged meditation session. We measured the physiological changes at rest and during the guided ...

Loving-kindness meditation and compassion meditation: Do they affect emotions in a different way?
Sirotina U., Shchebetenko S., Mindfulness 2020 No. 11 P. 2519–2530
Objectives: Despite being often overlapped and used interchangeably in academic literature, loving-kindness meditation (LKM) and compassion meditation (CM) are also seen to have their distinct features. As a differential approach towards LKM and CM can promote a more accurate integration of these practices into the clinical field, it is worth studying their differential effects. The ...

Сюрреализм и индивидуальное творчество: феномен группы в произведениях Р. Десноса и Ж. А. Буаффара
Balakireva M., 2020 № 1
Avant-garde art, and especially surrealism, is characterized by a specific set of collective practices aimed at realizing non-artistic goals: gaining legitimacy, fighting competitors, and acquiring symbolic power. However, sometimes collective statements and interactions serve to reveal the creative potential of both the entire group and its individual members. For surrealists, the period of “creative collective ...
