2016. № 3. С. 100-108.
«New people» in the novel «What is to be done» of Nikolai Chernyshevsky are people of new times, who, developing themselves, change outwards things, they are self-made men. They appear when the wind of freedom begins to blow. Perception and their own affair become the basis of their life. The love to themselves and to the people around, the statement that the beautiful is life, the breadth of daring deeds and courage are their main qualities. Chernyshevsky had written the novel about the young people of his time. But it is to be wondered that features of the novel's characters exist in our contemporaries. The article discusses the “affair” of each of the characters, and draws a parallel with the present day.
