Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

SATTELITE IMAGERY FOR MARINE OBJECTS IDENTIFICATION UNDER HIGHLY PERTURBED SEA

P. 40–46.
Kulagin V., Tsvetkov V. Y., Lapchinskaya M. P.
The paper considers perturbed sea surface describing and analyzing method based on Earth’s satellite images. Fuzzy sets method is the basis of the proposed method. The method allows obtaining models of perturbed sea surface that makes possible to identify sea objects from digital images. Surface model is superimposed to the image and then “subtracted” from the original one. On the rest, “clean” image, marine object identification is conducted.

Thematic structure of images in Vladimir Nabokov’s lyrics
Andreev V., Glottometrics 2025 Vol. 59 P. 84–97
Nabokov, known primarily for his prose, was also a remarkable poet. The article aims to examine the semantic (lexical) features of Nabokov's images in his lyrics. These characteristics include 23 semantic (thematic) classes of words that fill two positions of the figurative model – the position of the Target of the metaphoric transfer and the ...

Липид-опосредованная адаптация белков и пептидов в клеточных мембранах
Полянский А. А., Efremov R., Биологические мембраны 2024 Т. 41 № 4 С. 403–421
The paper overviews the results of computational studies of the molecular mechanisms underlying the adaptation of model cell membranes taking place during their interaction with proteins and peptides. We discuss changes in the structural and dynamic parameters of the water–lipid environment, the hydrophobic/ hydrophilic organization of the lipid bilayer surface (the so-called “mosaicity”), etc. Taken together, these effects are ...

Komashko M. N., Право и цифровая экономика 2024 № 1(23) С. 30–34
The article examines the development of technologies (in particular, artificial intelligence) from the point of view of the risks they create and the possibilities of legal regulation. Two situations are taken as an example, which are essentially opposite to each other. In one the authors, namely artists, oppose themselves to artificial intelligence and believe that modern technology violates ...

Применение моделей, основанных на нечеткой логике, к финансовым временным рядам
Shvedov A. S., Sviyazov V., В кн.: Системное моделирование социально-экономических процессов: труды 46-ой международной научной школы-семинара, г. Уфа, 9 - 15 октября 2023 г.: Воронеж: Истоки, 2024. С. 526–531.
The generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity model is widely applied to financial time series. There are further generalizations of this model. One of such generalizations is a combination of Takagi–Sugeno type fuzzy systems and autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity models. The Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy systems advantage is that there is a standalone generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity model constructed for ...

The presence of images does not moderate the disfluency effect
Berezner T., Gorbunova E. S., Психологические исследования: электронный научный журнал 2023 Vol. 16 No. 92 Article 2
The disfluency effect is an improvement in the retention of information if its processing is difficult. Disfluency is usually attained by changing perceptual characteristics. The disfluency effect has been demonstrated in several studies, but the number of unsuccessful replications is higher. Among the possible reasons why the disfluency effect often cannot be detected, we consider ...

Goryacheva E., Efremov R., Krylov N. et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences 2023 Vol. 24 No. 7 Article 6403
The rapid development of new microscopy techniques for cell biology has exposed the need for genetically encoded fluorescent tags with special properties. Fluorescent biomarkers of the same color and spectral range and different fluorescent lifetimes (FLs) became useful for fluorescent lifetime image microscopy (FLIM). One such tag, the green fluorescent protein BrUSLEE (Bright Ultimately Short Lifetime Enhanced Emitter), having ...

Lohan S., Konshina A. G., Efremov R. et al., Journal of Medicinal Chemistry 2023 Vol. 66 No. 1 P. 855–874
A series of small (7- to 12-mer) amphipathic cationic peptides were designed and synthesized with the ultimate goal of creating a set of short helical peptides with broad-range bactericidal activity and good selectivity toward the bacterial cells. Activity analysis identified a lead 12-mer peptide 8b with broad spectrum activity against Gram-positive (MIC=3.1-6.2 µg/mL) and Gram-negative ...

The Mechanism of Selective Recognition of Lipid Substrate by hDHHC20 Enzyme
Panina I., Krylov N., Chugunov A. et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences 2022 Vol. 23 Article 14791
S-acylation is a post-translational linkage of long chain fatty acids to cysteines, playing a key role in normal physiology and disease. In human cells, the reaction is catalyzed by a family of 23 membrane DHHC-acyltransferases (carrying an Asp-His-His-Cys catalytic motif) in two stages: (1) acyl-CoA-mediated autoacylation of the enzyme; and (2) further transfer of the ...

Абрамешин Д.А., Пожидаев Е.Д., Саенко В.С. et al., Известия вузов. Электроника. РФ 2022 Т. 27 № 5 С. 635–644
The electrons of the cosmic plasma act on spacecraft, causing the electrification of their dielectric materials. The result of the accumulation of charge is the occurrence of electrostatic discharges leading to failures in the operation of on-board radio electronics, and this phenomenon significantly reduces the duration of the active existence of spacecraft. One of the ...

SimDB in Action: Road Traffic Simulations Completely Inside Array DBMS
Rodriges Zalipynis R. A., PROCEEDINGS OF THE VLDB ENDOWMENT 2022 Vol. 15 No. 12 P. 3742–3745
Array DBMSs operate on big N-d arrays. Cellular automata (CA) work on a discrete lattice of cells, essentially on N-d arrays. CA facilitate decision support as they realistically simulate complex phenomena including road traffic, fire spread, and urban growth. Array DBMSs can bring numerous benefits to the CA domain via a ``database approach'': powerful parallelization, ...

Do we reject restrictions identifying fiscal shocks? identification based on non-Gaussian innovations
Karamysheva M., Skrobotov A., Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control 2022 Vol. 138 Article 104358
This paper is devoted to fiscal shock identification based on the assumption of non-Gaussianity of the errors, which can be easily tested. We use additional co-kurtosis conditions in GMM estimation of the AB-model to estimate the dynamic effects of fiscal shocks and find fiscal multipliers in the U.S. economy. Our approach results in higher tax ...
