The article examines the development of technologies (in particular, artificial intelligence) from the point of view of the risks they create and the possibilities of legal regulation. Two situations are taken as an example, which are essentially opposite to each other. In one the authors, namely artists, oppose themselves to artificial intelligence and believe that modern technology violates their rights. In the other situation, the author-student, on the contrary, has adopted one of the latest neural networks, which allowed him to optimise to a high degree the labour inputs in the preparation of his final qualifying thesis. However, this application of artificial intelligence has created risks of a different order. The article analyses the consequences of the application of modern technologies and society's reaction to these situations. The author comes to the conclusion that in both situations considered, the development of technology creates very real risks of the disappearance of entire sectors of the economy, and society and the legal framework are completely unprepared for an adequate response to the emerging threats, and, therefore, are not capable of regulating such situations.
