Physicists Discover What Happens Inside a Stable Vortex
Large vortices with characteristic spiral arms are often observed in the atmosphere and the ocean. Physicists from HSE University have explained how these structures form and why they retain their shape. The researchers found that velocities at points located along the same vortex arc remain correlated even over long distances. At the same time, this correlation weakens rapidly with increasing distance from the vortex centre. These differences help explain the formation of spiral arms and may improve models of atmospheric and oceanic currents. The findings have been published in Physical Review Fluids.

BLUETOOTH 5.1 INDOOR LOCALIZATION STUDY BASED ON ANGLE-OF-ARRIVAL METHOD
Sviatoslav Iakimenko, Tsislav A., Naumova E. et al., Telecommunications and Radio Engineering (США) 2022 Vol. 81 No. 3 P. 51–61
Bluetooth 5.1 is a new technology with a sample of novel features. One of the most significant improvements compared to the previous version is in the enhancement of indoor localization with techniques such as angle of departure (AoD) and angle of arrival (AoA). Up to date, only a modest number of limited practical studies were ...

Introduction to signal processing: sine wave and complex signals
Tikhonov E., Sneps-Sneppe M., International Journal of Open Information Technologies 2019 Vol. 7 No. 3 P. 17–24
The article describes one of the powerful tools for the signals analysis while transmission – complex mathematics. Here the basic concepts (complex numbers, complex signal as expansion of a real signal to a complex-valued function) and some operations (exponentiation, absolute value and angular phase representation) are introduced. As an example complex mathematical methods are used for ...

Introduction to signal processing: spectral representation
Tikhonov E., Sneps-Sneppe M., International Journal of Open Information Technologies 2019 Vol. 7 No. 4 P. 53–60
The article introduces powerful common tool for the signals analysis – basics of a spectral analysis.  It focuses on decomposition into complex sine waves (harmonic sinusoids) called the Fourier transform. Based on qualitative review of the natural phenomenon of visible light (that is the electromagnetic field oscillation in a working range of the eyes) decomposition into a ...

Introduction to signal processing: sampled signals
Tikhonov E., Sneps-Sneppe M., International Journal of Open Information Technologies 2019 Vol. 7 No. 7 P. 13–26
The article introduces the theoretical foundations of the modern method of storing, transmitting and processing signals: digital processing. It’s a way to use relatively small number of values instead of continuous real signal. For example, when transmitting information in telephony, speech is concentrated in the bandwidth up to 4 kHz. But we need doubled frequency 8 ...

Introduction to signal processing: information transmission using orthogonal sine waves
Tikhonov E., Sneps-Sneppe M., International Journal of Open Information Technologies 2020 Vol. 8 No. 6 P. 51–42
Data transmission using orthogonal functions means combining base carrier signals (scaled by numbers of useful information) into one sent signal. Processing the mixed signal after receiving allows dividing it back into carriers and restoring useful numbers. What is the most compact set of complex sine waves for this? How will the random components of the spectrum ...

Kozaev A., Saleh H., Alexandrov D., , in: Actual Problems of Systems and Software Engineering APSSE 2019 (Invited Papers).: Los Alamitos, Washington, Tokyo: IEEE Computer Society, 2019. P. 63–68.
The article is dedicated to implementation and evaluation of a model for simulation of emergency situations on main gas pipeline. Data produced by model was compared to data obtained from real emergency situations on main gas pipeline. Result of this work is the model built using MATLAB Simulink software that can be used for datasets ...

DD-SIMCA - a MATLAB GUI tool for data driven SIMCA approach
Zontov Y., Rodionova O. Y., Kucheryavskiy S. V. et al., Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems 2017 Vol. 167 P. 23–28
Soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA) is one of the OCC methods widely used in chemometrics. The original version, proposed by S. Wold, has numerous modifications mostly related to the way of constructing the acceptance boundaries. Recently, authors proposed the data driven version of SIMCA (DD-SIMCA), which allows to calculate the errors of misclassification ...

Computationally effective mathematical model of airplane flight
Kudryavtsev D. Y., Aminev D., Sviridov A. S., Russian Aeronautics 2016 Vol. 59 No. 3 P. 344–350
An approach to modeling is proposed, where the airplane is considered as a system with a minimal set of basic material points, and its mathematical description is given. We construct the mathematical model of the conventional airplane with an adequate accuracy for evaluation calculations in creating the control system. The flight simulation software for the ...

A simple technique for the design of P and PI-regulators for nonlinear control systems, which is based on the theory of minimax approximations, is proposed. Unlike the widely known methods of harmonic and statistic linearization, the minimax linearization method used in the present paper does not require special suppositions concerning the input signal of the nonlinear ...
