‘Working with AI Solves a Wide Range of Engineering Problems
Artificial intelligence is a working tool based on a balanced combination of algorithms and engineering. Experts and doctoral students from the HSE Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics explain how AI technologies can improve an application, device, or system, and what engineering tasks are solved in the process.

‘I Would Like My Research to Help Make the World a Calmer and Better Place
Whatever task Saraa Ali, Junior Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis (LAMBDA) of the AI and Digital Science Institute (HSE Faculty of Computer Science), is working on, she thinks about how it can benefit people. She told the Young Scientists of HSE University project about her large family, diagnosing three-phase motors, and her dream of building a children’s home in her native country.

‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

The relationship between human intellectual capital and innovation capacity in the public sector
Belmonte da Silva R., Fernandez-Jardon Fernandez C. M., Visión de Futuro 2021 Vol. 25 No. 2 P. 137–153
The public sector must respond to the citizens’ demands with speed and innovation. This ability can prevent many deaths, as in the case with the Covid-19 pandemic. The present study has the general objective of identifying the influence of human intellectual capital on the public sector capacity to innovate. To this end, 158 public servants, ...

Knowledge management behaviors in venture capital crossroads: a comparison between IVC and CVC ambidexterity
Rossi M., Festa G., Papa A. et al., Journal of Knowledge Management 2020 Vol. 24 No. 10 P. 2431–2454
Purpose Institutional venture capitalists (IVCs) and corporate venture capitalists (CVCs) deploy analogous activities but adopt different approaches to financing innovation and value creation for venture-backed firms. Thus, this paper aims to investigate their potential ambidexterity as a result of knowledge management (KM) strategies and processes. Design/methodology/approach After a focused literature review showing evidence of KM behaviors as a ...

The intellectual structure of academic discipline can be viewed as a set of interacting topics evolving over time. Dynamics of those topics i.e. changes in their popularity and impact is the subject of special attention because it reflects a shift in actual researchers’ interest. This paper analyzes topics of knowledge management (KM) on the base ...

Method for the Development of Recommendation Systems, Customizable to Domains, with Deep GRU network
Korotaev A., Lyadova L. N., , in: Proceedings of the 10th International Joint Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management (IC3K 2018) - Volume 2: KEODVol. 2.: SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda., 2018. P. 231–236.
The GRU-based recurrent neural networks (RNN) for constructing recommendation systems are proposed. Such systems are mainly developed by large companies for specific domains. At the same time, small companies don’t have the necessary resources to develop their own unique systems. Therefore, they need universal recommendation system (or recommender platform) automatically customized for a specific domain. ...

Ontology-Driven System for Monitoring Global Processes on Basis of Internet News
Shalyaeva Irina, Lyadova Lyudmila, Lanin Viacheslav, , in: 11th IEEE International Conference on Application of Information and Communication Technologies (AICT): Conference Proceedings (Vol.2)Vol. 2.: M.: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017. P. 385–389.
Abstract — An approach to development of ontology-driven system for monitoring global processes is presented. Ontology-driven architecture (ODA) intends using a few ontology types for different purposes. Ontologies are used to search Internet news with information retrieval tools. The domain ontology describes research interests of the experts needing analysis of world events and creation of ...

Collaborative Conceptual Exploration as a Tool for Crowdsourcing Domain Ontologies
Obiedkov S., Romashkin N. S., , in: RuZA 2015 Workshop. Proceedings of Russian and South African Workshop on Knowledge Discovery Techniques Based on Formal Concept Analysis (RuZA 2015). November 30 - December 5, 2015, Stellenbosch, South AfricaVol. 1552.: Aachen: CEUR Workshop Proceedings, 2015. P. 58–70.
Domain ontologies are essential in disciplines as diverse as software engineering, medicine, or political science to name just a few. This paper describes an ongoing effort to develop a methodology for collaborative ontology construction by geographically spread communities of experts and implement a web-based prototype supporting this methodology. A distinctive feature of the proposed approach ...
