Imperial Throne Halls and Discourse of Power in the Topography of Early Modern Russia (late 17th –18th centuries)
P. 341–352.
In the article analyses the Russian monarchical power presentation in the city topography of Moscow and St. Petersburg in the period of late 17th – 18th centuries. The author examines “tsar/emperor perception” and its practical realization and visual display – interrelations of the royal family residences and the inside of palaces and other structures that played a role in the representation of authority. The text presents a comparative evaluation of the data and demonstrates how throughout more than a century there occurred certain shifts in the Russian power perception whereas some distinctive features of its topography remained notwithstanding political and cultural change.
