The paper deals with an axiological dimension in discourse studies in linguistics and in the broader sense in the humanities. The comparative approach offered presents theories of values in Russian, European фand American research, focuses on the heuristic potential of values and value studies for discourse analyses. The underlying assumption is that the text is determined by values informed by discourse, while at the same time acting as a tool for construction and legitimation of new ones.
