HSE Researchers Show How Congenital Motor Disorders Affect Brain Development
Researchers from HSE University’s Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have synthesised the findings of their previous studies on brain development in children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy and arthrogryposis. Their analysis shows that impaired motor function in early childhood not only limits children’s motor experience but also affects memory, categorical thinking, and information processing. The study has been published in Frontiers in Psychology.

Window into the Body: Scientists Develop Neural Network to Detect Risk of 15 Diseases from Retinal Images
Russian universities, with the participation of HSE University, Sber, and Z-union, have developed a neural network that can simultaneously assess the risk of 15 types of pathology from retinal photographs, including not only eye diseases but also cardiovascular conditions. The AI system can help clinicians detect potentially concerning changes at an early stage, identify signs reflecting the condition of retinal blood vessels, and determine whether a patient may need further examination. The paper has been published in Frontiers in Medicine.

'We Did Not Limit the Time for Questions'
The International Laboratory for Supercomputer Atomistic Modelling and Multi-Scale Analysis at HSE University held a major conference on molecular dynamics. Participants had the opportunity to attend all the presentations, while speakers were given as much time as they needed to answer questions. The HSE News Service interviewed Grigory Smirnov, Head of the Laboratory, and Genri Norman, Chief Research Fellow, about the conference preparations and the discussions it generated.

Lebedev O. B., Лебедев Б. К., Бесхмельнов М. И., Известия ЮФУ. Технические науки 2025 Т. 2(244) С. 68–82
This paper describes a hybrid situational trajectory planning algorithm for 2D space operating under conditions of partial uncertainty. Based on the integration of wave-propagation and ant colony optimization algorithms, it enables the real-time generation of minimum-length trajectories while simultaneously optimizing other path quality criteria. The processes of generating a trajectory segment and moving the object ...

UAV Swarm Control with Operator-Leader-Followers Approach
Vaschenko A., Frolov O., Safin R. et al., , in: 16th International Conference on Intelligent Systems, INTELS 2024, Moscow, Russia, December 2–4, 2024, Proceedings, Part I. Intelligent Systems. (CCIS, volume 2603).: Springer, 2025. P. 311–324.
Swarm robotics is a complex domain within multi-robot systems that encompasses formation control, movement control, and interUAV communication. Coordinates task execution requires effctive swarm control, which relies on robust motion control algorithms and reliable data exchange mechanisms. In this work, we propose an operator-leaderfollowers approach for managing UAV swarms. It comprises the following components: centralized swarm control utilizing ...

Roslavtsev M., Eryomin A., Safin R. et al., , in: 2024 8th International Conference on Information, Control, and Communication Technologies (ICCT).: IEEE, 2024. P. 1–5.
Modern map-dependent algorithms for mobile robot navigation typically overload a CPU and memory with a gradually increasing amount of environmental data. In contrast, Bug family local path planning algorithms operate without mapping and have significantly lower hardware requirements. Bug algorithms use real-time measurements from visual and touch sensors to make immediate decisions on direction of ...

Highly Accurate Method for Detecting Archaic Segments in the Modern Genomes
L. Planche, A. V. Ilina, V. L. Shchur, Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics 2024 Vol. 45 No. 6 P. 2910–2917
Many of the modern human populations inherited a fraction of their genomes from archaic humans such as Neanderthals and Denisovans following ancient introgressions. Non-African populations have around 1–3% of Neanderthal ancestry, while some Oceanians and south-east Asians have in total up to 6% of Neanderthal and Denisovan ancestry. Accurately inferring genome tracts introgressed from these archaic population is ...
