«О немецкой республике»: Новалис в политической риторике Томаса Манна
С. 226–242.
The article analyzes Thomas Mann’s speech "On the German Republic" (1922) as an attempt to reinterpret German Romanticism in a republican and democratic light. Mann primarily draws upon the legacy of Novalis, using his ideas to ground the republic culturally within the German intellectual tradition. Through concepts such as "romantic democratism," "royal democracy," «rootedness in the people», and "political humanity," Mann seeks to distinguish "authentic Romanticism" from its nationalist and obscurantist interpretations. In this reading, the republic emerges not as a break with the past, but as an opportunity to preserve and renew the essential values of German culture.
