Matching Between Partition Incidence Matrices and Decision Tree Classifier Criteria

This paper proposes a family of scoring criteria for building classification trees. Our family is generated over rescaling weights of target categories according to a model matching the input and target partitions. We prove that popular Gini and Chi-squared criteria belong to the family. We experimentally show, using both real-world and synthetic datasets, that use of match scoring criteria can lead to superior results over those obtained using Entropy and other popular criteria.
