Склонность к злорадству, моральное негодование и порицание коррупции: адаптация русскоязычной версии Trait Schadenfreude Scale
Despite the growing interest in individual psychological determinants of corruption, the phenomenon of schadenfreude has so far remained largely unexamined as a possible factor associated with the moral evaluation of corrupt behavior and the severity of antisocial tendencies. The aim of this study was to psychometrically test the Russian‑language version of the Trait Schadenfreude Scale and to identify its relationships with variables relevant to the psychology of corruption. The online study involved 112 respondents aged 14 to 67 years. The research design included the Trait Schadenfreude Scale, the Moral Outrage Scale, the Psychological Superiority Scale, and the Big Five Inventory. The results showed high suitability of the data for factor analysis and revealed a three‑factor structure of the scale, comprising direct affective schadenfreude, seeking and consuming negative information, and extreme manifestations of schadenfreude. The scale demonstrated extremely high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.98; McDonald's ω = 0.98). Trait schadenfreude was found to be negatively associated with agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, emotional stability, moral outrage, and censure of corruption. No significant relationship with psychological superiority was found. Regression analysis results indicated that trait schadenfreude is a significant negative predictor of corruption censure, whereas moral outrage is a positive predictor. It is concluded that the adapted scale can be used in research on the psychology of corruption, and that schadenfreude itself deserves consideration as an emotional‑personality factor associated with reduced moral sensitivity and weaker condemnation of corrupt practices.
