Biologists Discover Unique Properties of MiR-93-5p MicroRNA in Prostate Cancer
Researchers at the International Laboratory of Microphysiological Systems of the HSE Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology investigated how different isoforms of the same microRNA influence gene function in prostate adenocarcinoma. The study found that in some cases, microRNAs can reinforce each other’s effects by targeting and suppressing the same genes. This finding offers a fresh perspective on the molecular mechanisms underlying tumour development and on the search for disease biomarkers. The results have been published in PeerJ.

The article examines the phenomenon of the flow state, optimal experience, in the context of professional sports activities. The analysis of modern research on optimal experiences in sports is carried out and the problem of diagnosing and verifying the components of the flow state is identified. The development and testing of a new diagnostic tool «Flow scale in sports» is described. Originally conceived as a shortened version of the Dispositional flow scale-2 test, the new tool was reorganized and assembled with new points into a structure of nine original scales and two new author’s scales. The original flow parameters include: Balance of skills and tasks, Fusion of consciousness and action, Clarity of purpose, Accurate feedback, Concentration on the current moment, a sense of control, Loss of self-awareness, Transformation of time, Autotelic experiences. New parameters: Volitional aspiration and Stability. Verification of the 33-point scale showed high internal consistency and convergent validity. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a division into 11 factors corresponding to the author’s parameters. The results of the study on 200 professional athletes show the high reliability of the new questionnaire.
