Physicists Discover What Happens Inside a Stable Vortex
Large vortices with characteristic spiral arms are often observed in the atmosphere and the ocean. Physicists from HSE University have explained how these structures form and why they retain their shape. The researchers found that velocities at points located along the same vortex arc remain correlated even over long distances. At the same time, this correlation weakens rapidly with increasing distance from the vortex centre. These differences help explain the formation of spiral arms and may improve models of atmospheric and oceanic currents. The findings have been published in Physical Review Fluids.

Optical conductivity of a dirty current-carrying superconductor
Polkin A., Skvortsov M., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 113 No. 17 Article 174516
We develop a full microscopic theory for the optical conductivity 𝜎⁡(𝜔) of a dirty current-carrying superconductor. Within the Keldysh sigma model formalism, we obtain the general analytical expression for 𝜎⁡(𝜔), applicable for arbitrary frequency 𝜔, temperature 𝑇, and dc supercurrent 𝐼. In addition to altering the usual Mattis-Bardeen conductivity 𝜎1⁡(𝜔), a finite supercurrent introduces two new contributions: 𝜎qp2⁡(𝜔) from quasiparticle redistribution and 𝜎SH2⁡(𝜔) from the amplitude ...

Superconductivity in thin films of RuN
A.S. Ilin, Strugova A. O., I.A. Cohn et al., PHYSICAL REVIEW MATERIALS 2024 Vol. 8 No. 7 Article 074801
Superconductivity has been found in RuN films obtained by reactive magnetron sputtering. This novel member of the metal nitride superconductors family has a critical temperature of the superconducting transition that varies depending on the substrate, ranging from 0.77 K to 1.29 K. The parameters of the crystal lattice of the superconducting films have been determined: ...

Лекции по физике поверхности
Aladyshkin A. Y., Фраерман А. А., Н.

Nonequilibrium phenomena in planar Josephson SNS nanostructures, where the superconductor (S) is Nb and the normal metal (N) is Cu or Au, have been studied experimentally. Using additional N electrodes attached to the S banks of the Josephson SNS junction, transport measurements have been performed at low temperatures with the injection of quasiparticles with the use of local ...

Peak effect in a superconductor/normal-metal strip in a vortex-free state
P. M. Marychev, Vodolazov D. Y., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2022 Vol. 105 No. 9 Article 094522
We theoretically predict that the critical current Ic and magnetization M of a hybrid superconductor/normal-metal (SN) strip may have nonmonotonous dependence on a perpendicular magnetic field—so-called peak effect. In contrast to familiar peak effect, which is connected either with vortex entry to the superconductor or with peculiarities of vortex pinning, the found phenomenon exists at ...

Selfconsistent 3D model of SN-N-NS Josephson junctions
Bosboom V., Van der Vegt J. J., Kupriyanov M. Y. et al., Superconductor Science and Technology 2022 Vol. 34 No. 11 Article 115022
We develop a quantitative model describing the distribution of the supercurrent density and density of states in SN-N-NS type Josephson junctions in three dimensions (S is a superconductor and N is a normal metal). The model is based on the self-consistent solution of the quasiclassical Usadel equations using the finite element method. We investigate the influence of the proximity ...

Peculiar superconducting properties of thin-film superconductor – normal metal bilayer with large ratio of resistivities
Vodolazov D. Y., Aladyshkin A. Y., Pestov E. E. et al., Superconductor Science and Technology 2018 Vol. 31 Article 115004
Developing the earlier results of Aslamazov et al ( 1986 Sov. Phys. JETP 64 1051 ) we perform a detailed study of the superconducting properties of a bilayer consisting of highly disordered superconducting (S) and low-resistive normal metal (N) films. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that the screening and transport properties of such a SN ...

Галкина Е. Г., Иванов Б. А., Кулагин Н. Е. et al., 2021 Т. 159 № 4 С. 671–686
The motion of domain walls in chiral magnets with symmetry broken relative to spatial inversion is investigated theoretically. It was found experimentally that such walls, which are known as the Dzyaloshinskii domain walls [22], exhibit unique dynamic properties. For chiral ferromagnets and antiferromagnets, nonlinear regimes of the motion of such a wall with the velocity up to ...

Systematic Study of Vortex Pinning and a Liquid–Glass Phase Transition in BaFe2–xNixAs2 Single Crystals
O. A. Sobolevskiy, JETP Letters 2018 Vol. 107 No. 2 P. 119–125
The vortex pinning and liquid-glass transition have been studied in BaFe2–xNixAs2 single crystals with different doping levels (x = 0.065, 0.093, 0.1, 0.14, 0.18). We found that Ni-doped Ba-122 has rather narrow vortex-liquid state region. Our results show that the temperature dependence of the resistivity as well as I−V characteristics of Ni-doped Ba-122 is consistent ...

Vlasenko V., Pervakov K., Pudalov V. et al., Journal of Physics: Conference Series 2014 Vol. 507 No. 1 P. 022044-1–022044-4
We report on successful fabrication of superconducting FeSe wire using hot gas extrusion (HGE) ex-situ PIT (powder in tube) method. Length of the obtained wire was about 60cm with cross-sectional superconducting core area nearly 2.5x 10^-3 cm^2. For the wire sample we observed superconducting transition temperature, T_onset = 11 K, about 1.2K lower compared to ...

Silaev M. A., Aladyshkin A. Y., Silaeva M V et al., Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter 2014 Vol. 26 No. 9 P. 095702-1–095702-7
On the basis of the phenomenological Ginzburg–Landau model we calculate the critical current of the domain-wall superconducting channel formed in flux-coupled superconductor/ferromagnet (S/F) hybrids in the presence of the nonuniform magnetic field of the domain walls. It is shown that the current-carrying ability in such S/F systems in the domain-wall superconducting state differs for the ...

Formation of bound vortex-antivortex pairs and their depinning in mesoscopic cross-film cryotrons
Aladyshkin A., Nefedov I., Aladyshkina A. S. et al., Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications 2012 Vol. 479 P. 98–101
We investigate numerically the formation of vortex–antivortex pairs in thin-film superconducting strip in the presence of a straight current-carrying wire, oriented perpendicular to this strip. We demonstrate that the change in the number of the trapped vortices/antivortices inside the strip near the current-carrying wire results in a oscillatory dependence of the critical current Ic on ...
