This article discusses the issue of assessing the coverage areas of cities in the Russian Federation by the availability of urban passenger electric transport for residents. This analysis is necessary to determine the directions of improvement of the state policy in the field of transport. The position of the scientific community regarding the role of urban electric transport in Russia and the opinions of foreign researchers regarding the importance of passenger electric transport development has been studied. A detailed analysis of the coverage has been carried out based on current regulations and the current state of electric transport by region of the Russian Federation. It has been determined that the highest rates of coverage of cities by electric transport are in Moscow and St. Petersburg, where the coverage share is over 50%, as well as in the Samara region, the Republic of Tatarstan, Omsk, Saratov regions and the Republic of Mari El, where coverage is 20% or more. As a result of the analysis, regions have been identified that require special attention when forming a state policy for the development of electric transport.
