‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Biologists Discover 'Molecular Fingerprint' of Preeclampsia
Researchers at HSE University employed a new method to model hypoxia in placental cells during pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and identified molecular markers of tissue hypoxia. Since hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying preeclampsia, these findings are important for a more accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease and for the development of effective treatment methods. The paper has been published in Placenta.

Shevgunov T., , in: 2024 Systems of signals generating and processing in the field of on board communications.: IEEE, 2024. P. 1–5.
The paper is aimed at investigating the difference between different forms of time-varying autocorrelation function (TVACF) used for the quantitative expression of the second-order statistical properties exhibiting by non-stationary random processes. The generalized form of TVACF is proposed where the position of the current time moment can be set by means of additional parameter. The ...

On the saturation of subfields of invariants of finite groups
Arzhantsev I., Petravchuk A. P., Mathematical notes 2009 Vol. 86 No. 5 P. 625–628
Every subfield K(φ) of the field of rational fractions K(x_1, . . . , x_n) is contained in a unique maximal subfield of the form K(ψ). The element ψ is said to be generating for the element φ. A subfield of K(x_1, . . . , x_n) is said to be saturated if, together with ...

This article analyzes modern linguistic synergetics’ concepts to identify this discipline's main ways and prospects in scientific episteme. The author focuses on the paradigm status and explanatory potential of lingua-synergetic studies. Data for this investigation consists of scientific articles, dissertations and monographs, which set out various versions of the synergistic interpretation of speech activity.  As ...

Анисимов В. А., МЕТОД: Московский ежегодник трудов из обществоведческих дисциплин 2021 № 11 С. 286–298
This article provides an overview of the theoretical foundations of intergenerational justice. It is shown that the theory of intergenerational justice has two foundations: a symmetric and an asymmetric approach. It also includes the positions of John Rawls and his symmetric concept of justice; Terence Ball and his idea of radical asymmetry; and Ken Binmore ...

Derivations of group rings for finite and FC groups
Арутюнов А. А., Kosolapov L., Finite Fields and Their Applications 2021 Vol. 76 Article 101921
In this paper we establish decomposition theorems for derivations of group rings. We provide a topological technique for studying derivations of a group ring A[G] in case G has finite conjugacy classes. As a result, we describe all derivations of algebra A[G] for the case when G is a finite group, or G is an FC-group. In addition, we describe an algorithm to explicitly calculate all derivations of ...

Real representations of C2-graded groups: The antilinear theory
Rumynin D., Taylor J., Linear Algebra and its Applications 2021 Vol. 610 P. 135–168
We use the structure of finite-dimensional graded algebras to develop the theory of antilinear representations of finite C_2-graded groups. A finite C_2-graded group is a finite group with a subgroup of index 2. In this theory the subgroup acts linearly, while the other coset acts antilinearly. We introduce antilinear blocks, whose structure is a crucial ...

Symmetry in large-scale socio-economic systems and the implications for management

The paper provides a methodology for identifying and analyzing group-theoretical symmetry in socio-economic applications. Symmetry is disclosed in the tasks of estimating contingent claims, the main hypotheses of financial markets, time series of stock indexes, including pre-crisis periods, the distribution of urban population and the duration of historical periods. The connection of solutions based on ...

New Characterization-Based Symmetry Tests
Bozin V., Milošević B., Nikitin Y. Y. et al., Bulletin of the Malaysian Mathematical Sciences Society 2020 Vol. 43 No. 1 P. 297–320
Two new symmetry tests, of integral and Kolmogorov type, based on the characterization by squares of linear statistics are proposed. The test statistics are related to the family of degenerate U-statistics. Their asymptotic properties are explored. The maximal eigenvalue, needed for the derivation of their logarithmic tail behavior, was calculated or approximated using techniques from ...

Tests based on characterizations, and their efficiencies: a survey
Nikitin Y. Y., Acta et Commentationes Universitatis Tartuensis de Mathematica 2017 Vol. 21 No. 1 P. 3–24
A survey of goodness-of-fit and symmetry tests based on the characterization properties of distributions is presented. This approach became popular in recent years. In most cases the test statistics are functionals of U-empirical processes. The limiting distributions and large deviations of new statistics under the null hypothesis are described. Their local Bahadur efficiency for various ...

The unreasonable power of the lifting property in elementary mathematics
Gavrilovich M., / Series arxiv "math.CT". 2017.
