The article examines the myth of the "rivalry" between two key figures of Leningrad's unofficial poetry - Leonid Aronzon and Joseph Brodsky. The author traces the origins of this narrative, which emerged in the 1970s within the "second culture" (thanks to figures like V. Krivulin, E. Shvarts, etc.), and analyzes its transformation in the unofficial literary sphere. It explores biographical intersections, creative interactions, and fundamental divergences in their poetics - particularly in the concept of "paradise." Despite the lack of direct evidence of a "rivalry" between the poets, the article demonstrates how the figure of Aronzon was used to construct the generational identity of St. Petersburg's "seventies" poets.
