The spring offensive of Admiral A.V. Kolchak’s Army (March – April 1919) is a watershed in the history of the Russian Civil War. Referring mainly to the archive sources, the author reviews an obscure military activity on the Eastern Front of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic which contributed to failure of the Spring Offensive plan. This refers to the circumstances of formation of a new line of defence of the Eastern Front of the fifth army to the South of Ufa in the middle of March 1919 based on a separate initiative of a Red commander Heinrich Khristoforovich Eiche who led one of the brigades of the mentioned armies. The author concludes that Eiche’s initiative and bold actions in many ways predetermined failure of the White’s plan to finally defeat of the fifth army and brought to naught the idea of the enemy’s advancement to the Volga river crossings to break-through the center of the Eastern Front order of battle.
