Критика концепции надзорного капитализма
The paper is devoted to the criticism of the concept of surveillance capitalism proposed by Shoshana Zuboff. First of all, the unprecedented popularity of the concept is noted and the fact that many scholars do not always use it appropriately in their research. Criticism of surveillance capitalism, focused on the construction of its own concepts, is called “parasitic.” Instead, attention is drawn to criticism focused on problematizing the concept of surveillance capitalism. Three types of such criticism are distinguished — the positions of publicist Evgeny Morozov, writer Cory Doctorow, and academic philosopher Peter Königs. The first type of criticism is called hostile and theoretical (Morozov), the second — friendly and empirical (Doctorow), the third — perverse and philosophical and applied (Königs). All three criticisms help to better understand the weaknesses of the concept of surveillance capitalism and come to a conclusion about the limitations of using Zuboff’s analytical model. At the same time, it is noted that no matter how devastating the criticism Shoshana Zuboff is subjected to, she is rightfully considered one of the most influential social theorists.
