HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?

Liver fibrosis (LF) is a severe condition lacking effective treatment, with inflammation driving its progression.
GILZ, a glucocorticoid-induced protein, was shown in mice to protect against LF by limiting CCL2 production and leukocyte infiltration. In GILZ-deficient mice, early LF was exacerbated due to increased CCL2 and enhanced pro-inflammatory cell recruitment. Silencing the CCL2 receptor CCR2 abolished this pathological recruitment and subsequent hepatic stellate cell activation. In human LF samples, TSC22D3 (GILZ) expression was downregulated and inversely correlated with CCL2 expression. Overall, GILZ plays a protective role in LF and represents a potential therapeutic target for liver fibrosis and related inflammatory disorders.
