The article raises the question of an integrated approach to linguistic research combining the findings of such linguistic paradigms as functional stylistics, cognitive science and pragmalinguistics. Analysing English and Russian business information letters the author applies the principle of complementarity in order to identify verbal representations of cognitive structures of this type letters establishing absence of influence of cognitive structures of English business infirmation letters on cognitive structures of Russian commercial letters of the type.
