‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Using Design Thinking Methodology for Advancing Employee Knowledge and Skill Sets

P. 120–131.
Starostin A., Pulyavina N.

This article explores the transformative impact of applying design thinking approach to the development of employee training systems, with a particular emphasis on human-centered innovation. Focusing on the unique context of marketplaces’ pickup-points staff within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, the research delves into the application of design thinking principles to the evolution of training programs.

The study highlights the pivotal role of human-centered design in reshaping training systems, ensuring that they not only meet the evolving needs of employees but also contribute to enhanced organizational effectiveness. By infusing design thinking methodologies, the article unveils a paradigm shift towards a more empathetic and user-centric approach to crafting training programs.

The examination of pickup-points staff within the CIS countries injects a distinctive layer into the analysis, recognizing and navigating the cultural nuances and specificities inherent in this context. The application of design thinking emerges as a potent catalyst for tailoring training systems to resonate authentically with the diverse workforce, fostering heightened engagement and optimizing learning outcomes.

The study includes forming a portrait of the target audience of employees, identifying the factors that most significantly influence an employee’s completion of educational programs.

This article provides insights into the potential of human-centered innovation in reshaping organizational learning landscapes. The findings offer practical implications for businesses, shedding light on how design thinking can be harnessed to create adaptive and culturally responsive training systems.
