The article presents a model of the evolution of the latent regional structure of income inequality based on a two-component model of a mixture of probability distributions, which makes it possible to identify trends in changes in this area. The process of stratification of the regional structure of income inequality is analyzed, accompanied by an increase in the share of a group of regions with increased Gini index values while stabilizing the overall level of inequality in Russia as a whole.

The possibilities of decomposing the Ginny index at the sub-regional level are analyzed in the context of ongoing efforts to disaggregate official statistics up to the municipal level fnd lower. The possibilities of solving the problem of assessing the level of inequality of municipal districts in terms of income of the population living in them are demonstrated.
