How to Assess Students Knowledge in the Age of AI
A researcher at HSE University has proposed a flowchart to help lecturers decide how to assess students who use artificial intelligence. It shows where the use of AI should be restricted and where it can be incorporated into the learning process. The article has been published in IT Professional.

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Апелляции к революции 1821 г. в период финансово-экономического кризиса в Греции

С. 255–273.
Александрова А. К.

The Greek revolution of 1821 is generally seen as the starting point of the history of contemporary Greek state, and is one of the foundations of Greek national consciousness. The idea of a struggle for independence, the memory of the 1821 Revolution, remains a crucial part of Greek identity to this day. It took special prominence in the last decade, during the financial and economic crisis. It is not surprising that appeals to the events of 1821 have grown more frequent during the crisis. The key theme which unites these drastically different and chronologically distant periods is the struggle for liberation of Greece, be it from the Ottoman reign or from the burden of the financial crisis.

During the crisis years, the liberation rhetoric was eagerly used by many politicians, from the far right to the far left ends of the political spectrum, from the government officials to opposition leaders. Radical politicians often appealed to the struggle for independence while calling for reevaluation of Greek relations with the EU or the Troika of creditors, presented in those cases as foreign powers seeking to undermine Greek sovereignty. Moderates were more restrained, using the Revolution as a difficult, but formative experience that the Greek nation had lived through with honor and dignity. The financial and economic crisis, and later the COVID pandemic were presented as similar challenges – equally difficult, equally transformative, and equally surmountable. Since the Revolution still occupies such a prominent place in Greek public consciousness, such historic analogies were readily accepted by the general public. They became a convenient populist tool for curtailing public dissatisfaction with the political elites.

This chapter examines the appeals of Greek politicians to the 1821 Revolution during the financial and economic crisis period.

For both Russia and Greece, the 2010s were an uneasy and transformative period, which inevitably had an impact on bilateral relations. The financial and economic crisis in Greece forced the government to look for new points of growth in the country’s economy, and “rebooting” the Greek-Russian relations was seen as one of such opportunities. But ...
